All registered plugins automatically get a menu item in the Plugins menu. By clicking an item, a plugin is activated. It depends on the plugin implementation whether it matters which packets are selected at that time and what happens next. As an example, the Checksum-Fix plugin that is shipped with Netdude will iterate over all currently selected packets and fix those packets. Then, it writes a little summary line in the status bar.
