GNU-Darwin aims to be the most free Darwin-based Unix distribution. Our mission is two-fold: Focus on new projects that leverage the unique capabilities of Darwin/Mach and help Apple users to enjoy the benefits of software freedom. (founded November 2000)

Contribute to GNU-Darwin
If you want to help the Distribution, we have
prepared some instructions for you. If you would like to donate money,
then you can go straight to the donation
page (the base donation is $20). Everyone can do something,
from kids to corporations, and
the whole community benefits!
Packages
Many crucial software application packages are available from GNU-Darwin project, such as DVD and CD mastering, PDF creation, Network audio, Parallel computing, 3D rendering, encryption, security, Dillo, AbiWord, and GNOME. They are all compatible with x86 (i386, Intel, AMD), and ppc (PowerPC, Apple, Darwin, Mac OS X). Try our
packages for Apple computers, also available in x86 versions!
Ports
The FreeBSD porting system is now working
for GNU-Darwin. This is our porting engine. An x86 ports
tarball is now available.
We also have user ports tarballs under development for GNU/Linux
and Tru64
Alpha operating systems. The porting engine is installed as a
self-contained system in the user's home directory. This system was used to
build our new GNU-Darwin-OSF
release. If you would like to try the user home
porting system, read the directions for
GNU-Linux, and adapt them to your
situation.
