$Id: INSTALL,v 1.2 1996/11/21 02:02:00 jdd Exp $ Installation instructions for tcplist: Unless you have a Sun running SunOS 4.x or an SGI running Irix 4.x, you will need to grab and install lsof 3.0 or later in order to use tcplist. The latest version of lsof 3.x can be found at: ftp://vic.cc.purdue.edu/pub/tools/unix/lsof/ Edit the Makefile, uncommenting the profile you want. Compile and install. If you are not using lsof, you will have to install the program with sufficient privileges to read /dev/kmem or equivalent. This normally requires that it be installed setgroupid "kmem" or "sys", or, on some systems, perhaps even setuid root. If you are using lsof, tcplist should not be installed setgroupid or setuid. Tcplist makes use of a file, normally /etc/hosts.noident, that contains a list of host addresses. Tcplist will avoid Ident-querying any of the hosts in the file. If desired, put the host addresses of personal computers, terminal servers and other well-known hosts that you know do not support the Ident protocol here. In some cases, querying such a host will take a while, and putting its address in this file may help tcplist finish more quickly. Please report any problems or suggestions to me at the address below.
